This in no way makes them bad players. In fact, players who are looking to play the odds and are content to amass many small victories rather than try to ride big waves looking for a giant score are among the best poker players. Before the latest poker boom, most professional players were the most highly skilled at limit poker. You are unlikely to find many professionals at your low stakes no-limit holdem poker table, which makes it a great place to learn your own weaknesses and how to exploit the poker weaknesses of others.
Strategy
In limit poker, your goal is to win extra bets when you have the best of it and save bets when you don’t, accumulating small advantages that add up over the course of the session. In no-limit, you’re waiting for the opportunity to win a big pot, and trying to avoid the pitfalls of losing one. In your low stakes no-limit holdem games, the pots may never seem to get that big, but you need to consider them relative to the size of the blinds. If you’re skilled enough to make it to a $10/$20 blind no-limit Texas holdem game, that’s the equivalent of $800. Looking at it that way should make winning those pots all the more satisfying.
