Re-buy Multi-table Tournaments Strategy and Tips
Re-buy tournaments are very unique and should be played in a particular way if you want to come out victorious. The first hour is all about chip accumulation and you should be trying to build your stack the entire time. Re-buying right at the beginning is a must because it is always profitable for you to obtain as many chips as possible. Now some players, during this first hour, like to build their stacks then sit out for the rest of the re-buy period. This is a terrible strategy as each player should have the confidence of managing their stack of chips.
Once this initial re-buy period is over, it is now time for add-ons (add-ons are a feature most internet poker sites have). Again gaining as many chips as possible is the point so spend the extra buy-in and add-on those chips. During the second hour of the tournament it is now time to play much tighter and try to find the opportunity to double up your chips. It is extremely crucial to double up your chips during this time and if you have more than one opportunity to do this then by all means take full advantage of that. You should also be paying more attention to the individual players because players will not be dropping as quickly and you might be at the same table during this entire time.
Hour three is another crucial point as the money becomes closer and blinds become higher. At this point you should have a good grasp on the table and players around you. It is now time to put all of your poker strategy into play as blind steals and position becomes very important. Take notice of your position, others chip stacks, and the play around the table. Is someone raising almost every hand? Or is some barely playing any hands? All of these questions are what will put you at the Final Table.
Whether you make the money at the end of hour 3 or at the beginning of hour 4 the play still becomes the same after you make the money. After making the money you must make more plays and overall see more flops to accumulate chips. Some of this truly depends of your chip stack, but even with a small chip stack you still must get your money in and not just get blinded out. If you have a chip stack of 10 big blinds or less at this period, your only play is all-in pre-flop or fold. Any other play at this point is just not a good one.
Building that large chip stack is the only way to make the glorious Final Table. Using your knowledge and position on the table you should be able to make smart choices which will gear you to that victory. Remember this strategy will change based on the number of entrants, type of game, and especially the buy-in. Make sure you are able to give at least 5 buy-ins into a re-buy/ add-on tournament. Sites like BodogPoker allow as many rebuys as you want, so its important to have enough money. Bankroll management is very important at this point and re-buy tournaments can become very costly.
